Facilities
Catherine McAuley School is a modern, contemporary building, with new extensions opened in 2004 and 2016. The school has invested in excellent facilities for our pupils including classrooms for Art and Design, Home Economics, Horticulture, Woodwork, Hair and Beauty Therapy. All classes are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards and IT facilities.
Library
In 2010 we opened our new Library. This room was specially designed to be a comfortable, accessible learning environment; fully equipped with an interactive whiteboard and hundreds of interesting books to cater for all ages. This room is used by all pupils. The library is stocked with numbers of reading schemes for all ages and abilities.
Home Economics
We have two Home Economics rooms fully equipped with 7 cooking / kitchen areas, to accommodate two pupils to each area. This facility is an excellent preparation ground for our pupils in providing them with opportunities to practice their life skills.
Art & Crafts
The Art & Craft room is a bright, airy room with plenty space to create large or small works of art. We have all the materials needed to allow for our pupils' creativity to blossom including a kiln.
Sports
The sports facilities in our school are truly second to none. We have an all weather AstroTurf pitch, a fully equipped gymnasium with shower facilities, changing rooms, an exercise room, a games room and a sensory room. We take great pride in our sports achievements both in the National arena and the International arena and our facilities have helped our pupils to learn the value of exercise in their everyday lives.
Activity Hub
In 2019 we opened our Activity Hub. The Hub is designed to provide sensory relief to pupils.
Woodwork
Our two woodwork rooms are fully equipped with machinery and tools, along with safety equipment. It is here that our students learn wood working skills which may help them into later life and or give them a profession that they can enjoy after their school life. Horticulture
Our new horticulture room is large and bright and attached to a large potting area and green house. We also have large areas outside for planting vegetables, flowers and plants. Ex-President Mary McAleese plants a tree in our memorial garden.
Hair & Beauty
The Hair and Beauty facility is also a new addition to our school. We can now equip our pupils with skills which they can use in the world of work and also at leisure. The room is equipped with hairdressing sinks and everything that would be found in a hair and beauty salon. Pupils have the opportunity to learn how to wash and style hair, apply make-up and cleanse skin, along with learning about hygiene and maintaining healthy hair, skin and nails.
Exercise Room
The exercise room is stocked with numbers of stationary bikes, treadmills, cross trainer, steppers and other equipment. It is here where students can get fit and healthy in order to learn, play and have fun with life.
Prayer Room
The Prayer room provides our pupils with a quiet place in which they can meditate, listen to calming music and pray. The Sunday Gospel is open and available to pupils to read every day.
