Catherine McAuley School is a modern, contemporary building, with a recent extension which was officially opened in 2004. The school has invested in excellent facilities for our pupils including classrooms for Art and Design, Home Economics, Horticulture, Woodwork, Hair Care and Beauty Therapy. The new wing is also home to our Library which has computers available for students to use and comfortable reading areas.
In 2010 we opened our brand new Library. This room was specially designed to be a comfortable, accessible learning environment, fully equipped with an interactive whiteboard, computer bay area and hundreds of interesting books, CD Roms and audio books. This room is used by all pupils. The library is stocked with numbers of reading schemes for all ages and abilities.
The sports facilities in our school are truly second to none. We have an all weather AstroTurf pitch, a fully equipped gymnasium with shower facilities, changing rooms, an exercise room, a games room and a sensory room. We take great pride in our sports achievements both in the National arena and the International arena and our facilities have helped our pupils to learn the value of exercise in their everyday lives. Our AstroTurf pitch is used daily and is a fantastic facility to have it also provides a great surface for Mini Golf.
Every year the school holds the Gary Lane Memorial Cup skipping competition.
We have networked PCs in every room and individual lap tops in numbers of rooms. Each classroom has a computer hub of 3 computers. There are numbers of computer rooms for full class access. We are currently upgrading our classroom facilities to accommodate a fully interactive whiteboard in each room. This will provide our pupils with even greater opportunities to access high quality learning experiences. We also have launched an intranet service providing email systems within classrooms for pupils and staff.
Our new Home Economics room is fully equipped with 7 cooking / kitchen areas, to accommodate two pupils to each area. This facility is an excellent preparation ground for our pupils in providing them with opportunities to practice their life skills.
Our new horticulture room is large and bright and attached to a large potting area and green house. We also have large areas outside for planting vegetables, flowers and plants. Ex-President Mary McAleese plants a tree in our memorial garden.
The woodwork room is fully equipped with machinery and tools, along with safety equipment. It is here that our students learn wood working skills which may help them into later life and or give them a profession that they can enjoy after their school life.
Art & Crafts
The Art & Craft room is a bright, airy room with plenty space to create large or small works of art. We have all the materials needed to allow for our pupils' creativity to blossom including a kiln.
Hair & Beauty
The Hair and Beauty facility is also a new addition to our school. We can now equip our pupils with skills which they can use in the world of work and also at leisure. The room is equipped with hairdressing sinks and everything that would be found in a hair and beauty salon. Pupils have the opportunity to learn how to wash and style hair, apply make-up and cleanse skin, along with learning about hygiene and maintaining healthy hair, skin and nails.
The Games room is a relatively recent addition and provides our pupils with plenty games and activities to help them develop their social skills. Pupils have a great choice of games from Table Tennis, Giant Connect Four and Air Hockey, to Foosball, Pool and Board Games.
The exercise room is stocked with numbers of stationary bikes, treadmills, cross trainer, steppers and other equipment. It is here where students can get fit and healthy in order to learn, play and have fun with life.
The Prayer room provides our pupils with a quiet place in which they can meditate, listen to calming music and pray. The Sunday Gospel is open and available to pupils to read every day.
